Videra Health Launches AI Digital Health Companion for Healthcare Providers and Payers

Harnessing the power of text, voice, and video, Videra Health’s new patient chatbot transforms remote care delivery for improved patient outcomes.

Videra Health™, the pioneer in automated video assessments for healthcare providers and payers, announced the release of its highly-advanced, AI-powered digital health companion, Ava. This cutting-edge chatbot combines text, voice and video, prompting dynamic patient conversations to identify urgent concerns and ensure speedy intervention—anytime, anywhere.

The impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have highlighted the ongoing need for remote care options, and Videra Health’s new AI digital health companion is poised to transform the way healthcare providers and payers deliver care. By integrating multiple communication channels, the tool offers a more personalized and real-time patient monitoring experience, leading to better patient outcomes.

“At Videra Health, our mission is to use technology to improve healthcare outcomes and increase access for all patients,” said Loren Larsen, CEO of Videra Health. “We believe that by allowing patients to be ‘seen’ anytime and anywhere through our new patient monitoring tool, we are taking a significant step towards achieving this mission. Ava is a virtual safety net that allows providers to efficiently check in on their patients’ conditions through dynamic assessments, providing them with the ability to deliver timely and effective care, regardless of their busy schedules.”

Ava, the digital health companion, utilizes large language models and machine learning algorithms to engage patients in dynamic conversations through text, voice and video. This results in a more seamless and effective way of collecting patient information, surpassing the limitations of traditional paper or online surveys. The chatbot tailors its questions in real-time to assist patients and providers in noticing subtle changes sooner than they would have otherwise. This can potentially result in earlier detection of complications that may be developing. As a result, this technology enables healthcare providers to reach a wider population across different care settings, enhancing patient compliance, awareness, and involvement in their own care.

The technology can be seamlessly integrated with care management clinical workflows, enabling prompt escalation to in-person clinical care if a patient’s responses indicate a potentially serious issue, generally directing the patient to connect with their provider. “Red alert” responses and high assessment scores trigger an immediate call from a care navigator or, in some cases, instructions to call the suicide and crisis lifeline at 988 or go to the nearest emergency department.

“We are thrilled to introduce our new digital health companion known as Ava, which takes our video assessments to the next level,” says Dr. Brett Talbot, CCO of Videra Health. “The chats are personalized to each individual and aim to enhance the interactions between patients and their providers while also making it easier to gather crucial data. This allows for early detection of potential health issues and more proactive intervention, ultimately leading to improved patient outcomes and reduced healthcare costs.”

With the introduction of its AI digital health companion, Videra Health sets a new standard for healthcare engagements, allowing patients to respond in a manner that is convenient for them.

Videra Health Uses AI-assisted Video Assessments to Help Signature Healthcare Services Improve Long-term Outcomes for Behavioral Health Patients

Videra Health

Digital health software platform, Videra Health, announced today a partnership with California-based behavioral health system Signature Healthcare Services, to improve patient post-discharge follow-up using AI-assisted video assessments.

“Videra’s technology has already identified patients who need help and alerted our team to immediately follow-up with these patients. These crucial interventions would never have happened without the insight and automation of the Videra technology.”

The partnership combines cutting-edge technology with a trusted, well established behavioral health system. Signature Healthcare Services’ 19 acute care facilities offer a full spectrum of programs including acute inpatient care for children, adolescents, adults, geriatric, and residential patients, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs.

When patients leave treatment, they are especially vulnerable. Videra Health’s technology utilizes video and voice analytics to predict when a patient is in distress and may need support or intervention. The technology allows Signature Healthcare to automatically check-in with at-risk patients at regular intervals and drive adherence to required post-discharge follow-up milestones for each patient. Not only will more patients be helped who otherwise wouldn’t have been identified, but these rich, automated touchpoints will allow Signature to keep patients connected to the same facility and providers that originally provided their vital treatment.

“With a national shortage in providers and a dramatic increase in the need for behavioral health treatment, we’re thrilled to help Signature bring an innovative approach to caring for patients after their discharge,” said Mike Henneman, VP of Revenue and Strategic Partnerships at Videra Health.

The two companies have already begun implementing the automated video post-discharge programs at one of Signature’s flagship facilities, Houston Behavioral Healthcare Hospital. They’ve seen notable preliminary success in a short period of time, and are exploring the possibility of expanding the service to the remaining 18 Signature Healthcare locations.

“Staffing shortages and the dramatic need for mental health care during the pandemic made it critical to utilize technology to improve follow-up care, achieve better outcomes, and meet our vitally important quality metrics,” said Jean Scallon, Regional VP at Signature Healthcare Services. “Videra’s technology has already identified patients who need help and alerted our team to immediately follow-up with these patients. These crucial interventions would never have happened without the insight and automation of the Videra technology.”

Videra Health Announces $3 Million in Seed Funding

Videra Health

Videra Health, the remote patient monitoring video platform for behavioral health, today announced $3 million in seed funding to address the dearth of patient-provider engagement in-between appointments. The round is led by Peterson Ventures, with participation from Rose Park Advisors and OATV. Videra Health hosts thousands of patient engagements every month for behavioral health providers nationwide to power more personalized, more effective care.

“Even before Covid, behavioral health was woefully underfunded and understaffed. As the mental health crisis mounts, more and more patients need to be seen by our current providers. It is critical to equip providers with a scalable way to gain insights about patients both at and between appointments, the latter of which is traditionally a black box to providers,” says Loren Larsen, founder and CEO of Videra Health. “Our asynchronous telehealth platform opens this black box, giving behavioral health specialists easy-to-access, actionable patient data, so they have deeper insights about patients across the continuum of care. ”

Videra Health’s growth and funding come at a critical time. An overwhelming majority, 91 percent, of providers believe remote patient monitoring and post-discharge surveys are essential. Meanwhile, 86 percent of patients are interested in more engagement between appointments. Videra Health customers report gathering more and higher quality patient data to fuel better care interactions and interventions, even while saving approximately 88 percent of staff time.

“We believe that AI will play an increasingly important role in the future of healthcare,” says Ben Capell, Managing Director with Peterson Ventures. “The Videra Health team is using AI to enable providers to close the widening gap in engagement between patient visits. Their mission and their platform is already positively impacting the behavioral health category, and has the potential to reach more broadly in the years ahead as patient-centered care paradigms take hold.”

Videra Health is an FDA-registered digital platform that connects providers and patients anytime, anywhere between visits and post-discharge. Patients are invited to check in with their provider by answering traditional healthcare assessments questions as well as answering on video The platform then extracts both quantitative and qualitative patient data and organizes and analyzes that data quickly to assist with clinical decision making. Videra truly allows providers to see the right patient at the right time.
